UK economy grows 0.1 percent in October – POLITICO

LONDON — The U.K. economy grew by only 0.1 percent in October, according to data released Friday by the Office for National Statistics, leaving it 0.5 percent below its pre-pandemic peak in February 2020.

That marks a slowdown from the 0.6 percent growth posted in September.

Services were up, chiefly health and used car sales, while manufacturing was flat and construction slumped.

“Taken as a whole, the dominant services sector reached its pre-pandemic level for the first time in 20 months,” said Grant Fitzner, ONS chief economist. However, underlying data showed consumer-facing services remained 5.2 percent below their pre-pandemic levels.

Within the health case sector, growth was driven by the National Health Service’s test-and-trace service and rising face-to-face doctor appointments.
