Uber to restart in Brussels on Saturday – POLITICO

Uber drivers in Brussels will be able to pick up passengers again as of Saturday, it said in a statement.

The U.S.-based ride-hailing company will return after its app was almost useless for two weeks following a court ruling and while it waited on taxi reform in the EU’s capital. The Brussels government adopted an emergency decree on Thursday to allow Uber to operate again, and the parliament approved the plan on Friday.

Uber said in a statement it was “pleased” to welcome back passengers, but said full reform was still necessary “as soon as possible.”

A Brussels MP — Bianca Debaets of the Flemish Christian Democrats — was not too happy about the solution, saying it was a “bad patchwork” — as the decree only allows Uber drivers to operate if they can prove they work more than 20 hours a week.
