Mayhem at Atlanta Airport after an accidental gun discharge

Atlanta Airport was swallowed by chaos after an accidental gun discharge happened inside the premises, causing people to run for their lives. The incident took place at the security area of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after a passenger accidentally discharged his gun when he was planning to board a plane. According to local authorities, the incident took place at 12:30 CT when an item that wasn’t cleared for travel was detected by the airport security’s X-rays. As soon as this happened, the item was flagged for secondary inspection.

Robert Spinden, the Transportation Security Administration’s federal security director for Georgia revealed more details of the incident: “During that secondary search, the passenger lunged into his property, grabbing a firearm that was located inside, which ultimately discharged,” Spinden said. “The passenger then fled the security checkpoint through an adjacent exit lane with his firearm. “We’re fortunate that when the firearm went off, nobody was seriously injured,” Spinden added. According to the TSA, three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries due to the panic caused by the gun discharge. All of the injured were adults who got hurt as they attempted to exit the premises amid all the chaos.

The suspect for the gun discharge is being identified.

According to authorities, they already have the suspect’s identity but he fled after the incident happened. There’s a warrant for his arrest. Back in 2014, Georgia law-makers approved a NRA-supported ‘guns everywhere’ law that allows loaded guns inside airports. During this incident, everybody obviously thought there was an active shooter at the airport. This is what caused the mass panic. No suspect has been aprehended for the incident yet. Multiple witnesses took to Twitter to document everything that happened at the Atlanta Airport. Fortunately, nobody suffered major injuries other than the massive scare.
