Man charged after allegedly smashing Uber vehicle with hammer

A person has been charged after he allegedly smashed the home windows of an Uber car with a hammer in Melbourne’s east this morning.
Police say the person was picked up in Carlton for an anticipated journey to Surrey Hills earlier than a dispute over cost occurred in Blackburn simply after 7.30am.

As the automobile pulled into Lalwa Street, police allege the passenger began to break the rideshare automobile with a hammer.

The driver, who was not injured through the incident, instructed police he stopped at a ironmongery shop throughout journey so the passenger may make a purchase order.

One witness stated the car was utterly destroyed.

“It was all smashed up down the side mirror and the back windscreen has a big hole in it,” he stated.

A 42-year-old man was arrested at a procuring centre on Canterbury Road, Forest Hill at 1.30pm at this time.

The man was charged with felony injury, theft and driving offences and can face court docket in October.
