Sky News host Chris Kenny says the China subject “escalated further this afternoon” after it was revealed Deputy Labor Leader Richard Marles held secret conferences with Chinese officers.
It comes as Defence Minister Peter Dutton stated there have been Chinese warships off the Western Australian coast and had been heading in direction of Darwin.
“The timing of today’s revelation is delicate, just 8 days from the election, and with Labor under pressure on standing up to China,” Mr Kenny stated.
He stated the incident was “presumed to be linked to Chinese efforts to monitor military exercises between Australia and allies off Queensland” and extra will likely be recognized within the coming days.
Mr Kenny stated earlier than Mr Dutton had revealed the presence of the spy ship, the main target was on Mr Marles’ secret conferences with the Chinese who “attempted to laugh off the issue”.
“Remember, Marles has been tipped to be either defence minister or foreign affairs minister if Labor wins government,” he stated.
